Melanie Jäger

Technical Assistant

Hi, I’m Melanie — a certified lab technician with over 20 years of hands-on experience in research labs across both academia and biotech. I’ve worked with a variety of techniques in molecular biology, histology, cell culture, and animal work. I love being part of research that pushes science forward, and I’m known for keeping labs organized, running smoothly, and compliant with safety standards.
I completed my training as a certified laboratory technician at the Medical Technical College in Dresden from 1997 to 2000. In addition to my formal education, I’ve taken several specialized courses over the years, including a FELASA Category B certificate in 2010 (focused on animal work), a course in embryo transfer for cleaning infected mouse strains (2004), and a training course to become a molecular biology specialist (2002–2003).
What I really enjoy is being the steady hand behind the scenes — making sure everything in the lab runs reliably, so the team can stay focused on the science. I like to take care of the background structure: keeping equipment maintained, supplies stocked, protocols clear, and data well-documented. I find satisfaction in setting up a clean, efficient space where researchers can do exciting experiments without distraction.
For me, it’s all about contributing to meaningful research by creating a calm, supportive, and well-organized environment. And, honestly, I just really like the calm rhythm of a good day at the bench.
