Gulyaim Sagandykova
PostDoc
Gulyaim has become passionate about analytical chemistry, its applications and impact during her bachelor and master degree education. She gained extensive experience in working with volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds in food and environmental
samples in research team of Prof. Bulat Kenessov, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and during her internship in the Open University, United Kingdom under supervision of Prof. Geraint Morgan and Prof. Nicholas Turner. During her PhD study,
she dived into bio-analytical chemistry and graduated from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń with thesis entitled „Modern analytical techniques for study of biological activity of naturally occurring compounds”. The study included development
of computational approaches for research of interactions between small molecules and cell membrane lipids with application of biomimetic chromatography and QSRR with further implications for drug discovery. During her first postdoctoral research
at Nicolaus Copernicus University, she received a funding for developing innovative field of surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (SALDI-MS) for analysis of lipids with enhanced sensitivity.
Research interests
Currently, Gulyaim is working on advancing mass spectrometry imaging technologies, specifically in the field of lipid research. Her work is focused on developing matrix-assisted LDI-MS for spatial lipidomics and multimodal imaging workflows
